Prods Oktor Skjǣrvø, The Pahlavi Optative and Some Feminine Forms in -īy


1. The existence of a Pahlavi 2nd singular optative ending in -ēš has been doubted for over a century, having been regarded as an orthographic variant of the ending . Here it is shown that the scribes most of the time carefully distinguished between the two endings.

2. The Pahlavi ending -īy is found in a variety of words, including the common gētīy, but also in several feminine adjectives, among them ahlawīy and ahlawēnīy.
