Paul Harrison, "Verses by Śāntideva in the Śikṣāsamuccaya: A New English Translation"

This paper presents a brief account of a series of verses found in Śāntideva’s Śikṣāsamuccaya and previously taken for the most part as quotations from his source texts. With obvious links to the Bodhicaryāvatāra, the verses throw light on the compositional trajectory of Śāntideva's work, and provide interesting and often elegant restatements, many of them unique to the Śikṣāsamuccaya, of key Mahāyāna ideas and ideals. The paper offers a new annotated English translation of the verses.
