Hiroshi Kumamoto, Paul Pelliot and the Deśanā-parivarta of the Suvarnabhāsa-sūtra

Paul Pelliot’s publication of the Confession chapter (deśanā-parivarta) of the Khotanese Sūtra of Golden Light in 1913 is, despite its shortcomings, remarkable in many respects and should be regarded as one of the earliest studies of Khotanese. Its importance has largely been ignored, probably because Pelliot did not pursue this line of study. However, in retrospect, his role should now be reappraised among such pioneers of Khotanese studies as Hoernle, Leumann, and Konow.
