In this article, objects forming an ensemble of eight coins and four
gold bracteates reported to have been found in Gharwal in the district
of Wardak, Afghanistan, are presented in a scientific framework. In
addition, examples from similar complexes that help to clarify
the use of gold bracteates and their preferred motifs are discussed.
The iconographical and the chronological range of the objects from
Gharwal is very broad, and these, as a whole, are of particular
interest because coins are mixed with bracteates and indicate a minimum
time span for the use of all the other objects.
